Vacation Time!

Loving the Florida sun!

WOW! What a great family vacation we had. We traveled from Idaho to Florida in search of sun, sand and lots of fun and I must admit that Destin, Florida DID NOT disappoint! We were really just looking for a relaxing beach getaway. Not a ton of running around sight-seeing. Just hanging out at the beach and pool. Maybe hitting up a few local tourist spots and a dinner or two out. But that was it.

The beautiful white sand beaches of the Emerald Coast!

We typically find ourselves running here, there and everywhere in an attempt to "get it all in". And I personally find those types of vacations with two young children exhausting. So this was a great getaway for us that was very relaxing and completely stress-free!

Our motto for our trip!

This was the children's first trip to the ocean and it seems as if they may have had mixed feelings about it. First of all the beach in Florida even in September is HOT! My 2 1/2 year old was fine in the shade but out of the shade he was pretty miserable. He mainly enjoyed the pools (there were 3 to choose from at our resort as well as a lazy river). Our 4 year old liked the beach a bit more and wasn't too bothered by heat (perhaps because she enjoyed the waves?) or the sand. So we made it to the beach for at least a little bit each day.

Our little guy enjoying an overcast morning at the beach!

Our very own "Little Mermaid!"

The most stressful part of traveling this time for me was food. Not so much the actual part of being on vacation but flying. As anyone who has ever flown knows, airline food is a) over-priced and b) horrible! So I was a little stressed out about sticking to my healthy eating plan.

The night before I came up with a plan that would help me stick to healthy eating and am I glad I did!

I packed a small soft sided cooler with my 21 Day fix containers and packed the following:

  • Peanuts
  • Wheat Thins
  • Hummus
  • Strawberries
  • Celery
  • Two packets of Shakeology (individual packets)
  • Shakeology shaker cup (empty)
  • 2 gallon sized zip lock baggies

My 21 Day Fix containers

Once I got through security I went over to the McDonalds and filled one ziploc baggie full of ice then placed it in the other just in case to avoid any leaks. Then put the ice in my cooler bag! Then I bought a large bottle of water and filled my Shakeology shaker cup.

I was all ready for the flight! (I had also thrown some kid snacks into my carry on so they had snacks as well). We had boarded our first flight at 7:30 and literally had no time at our connection to stop and eat. We pretty much had to hustle through the airport to catch our connection! So, for lunch I added my vanilla Shakeology to the water that was left in my shaker cup and that was my lunch. We bought the kids snack packs on the plane.

On the second flight I still had plenty of healthy 21 Day Fix snacks to get me through the last hour and a half so my eating during travel was clean! Before we landed I dumped out the melted ice in the airplane bathroom sink.

As for the rest of the trip we mainly cooked at our condo (turkey sausage, veggies, salad) and had turkey wraps for lunches with hummus, fruit and fresh veggies that we dipped in hummus. We did go out for dinner a few times. And the great part about vacationing in a beach town in all the delicious seafood!  There were a few indulges (hush puppies, biscuits and gravy and some adult beverages) but they were in moderation and so very worth it!!!

A bucket of Bacardi Brian and I shared

Fall Back

Ahhhh... Fall is already in the air. The mornings are crisp and it's only a matter of time before the maple tree in our front yard turns the most amazing shade of red! (I'll definitely have to post a picture of that, it's pretty amazing!)

So I am pretty close to completing my third and final round of 21 day fix. I'm pleased at what I see in the mirror and have successfully managed to go down 2 full pant/dress sizes and am definitely going to be wearing a bikini in Destin, Florida in a week and a half!

But now it's on to other things. I recently ordered P90X3 (with celebrity trainer Tony Horton) and actually started that workout this morning. I am still eating according to the 21 Day Fix guidelines so it's a hybrid of sorts, for now.

P90X is the program that really put Beachbody on people's radar. The workouts aren't easy but they do provide some pretty miraculous results. However, in my mind P90X is marketed toward the already incredibly fit.  For those of you who may not be familiar with P90X3, it's basically the P90X workout broken down into daily half hour workouts as opposed to the original P90X format of 45 minute - 1 hour workouts.  For me, that was the most appealing part of this program. Sure I was intimidated by the look of the program but I figured it was only a half an hour. I can do anything for 30 minutes, right?

So I ripped that box open and watched a few of the DVD's. At first I thought "uh oh"... but as I kept watching I thought it looked kind of fun! So I was actually excited to get up this morning and try it out.

So now you're wondering "how'd she do?" well not too bad, actually. Of course there are modifications on all of the exercises, which was helpful. But the other great part is you go at your own pace. These moves are challenging enough that even at a snails pace, you're working!  I had to take some small breaks, or just hold plank every now again, which is fine. But I lived and I worked hard because I was dripping with sweat! And you know what? I'm going back for more tomorrow.

Different workout for tomorrow, "The Warrior" (today was "Accelerator" ) but I'm excited to try it!

As far as my husband and his progress, he's finishing up his second round of 21 Day Fix and I'm excited for his results! When he came home from work today, he showed me that his belt notch is one smaller and his pants were definitely looser around the waist.  I'll be sure to post his progress pictures and measurements next week.

So here's the great news about this workout. Is it difficult? yes, Is it kind of intense? yes. So guess what Tony Horton decided to do? Someone must have told him that the P90 "X series" were intense too! So he created P90. P90 was specifically designed for beginners. The perfect gateway to get started. Designed for all ages, and all fitness levels.

And here's the REAL exciting news! P90 will be available on September 23, 2014. So, if you'd like to give it a try but have been intimated by the "X" series or just want to get your fitness routine started, this might just be the program for you.

So I have just a little over a week until our big family beach vacation to Destin, Florida and I am committed to getting the most out of these last few workouts and eating healthy! My workouts are non-negotiable! No excuses!
