Whats a Challenge Group??

I'm pretty excited right now! I have 14 weeks until I leave for Nashville TN to attend Summit. In Beachbody land this is the time when coaches travel from all across the country to attend workshops, network, meet and workout with Beachbody's celebrity trainers and of course celebrate successes!

Looking at the calendar, I just realized I have EXACTLY enough time to do 1 round of P90X3 and fit in 1 final round of 21 Day Fix Extreme. And while this leaves me feeling a little overwhelmed, I know that the key to my completing these programs and getting great results will be my challenge groups.

One of the #1 questions I am asked when I'm sharing what I do with others is "What is a Challenge Group?" Challenge groups are totally unique to Beachbody and for me, was the key to my success with losing weight. To this day, the challenge groups that I run help me maintain my fitness goals AND push me to continue to set new goals.

During my first challenge group I had incredible support. Someone to be accountable to and if I was struggling, others to lift me up to help keep me motivated and inspired. I can specifically remember a day when I didn't want to press play. I posted my question about taking a rest day in my group and immediately got responses. Reasons to get in my 30 minutes, challengers just like me telling me that it was ONLY 30 minutes, reminding me of the reason I started this journey in the first place and great advice from my coach about getting to the REAL reason I felt like I needed to "rest".

My challenge group was there when I had a day with 2 sick kids, doctors appointments and nothing healthy ready to eat for dinner. In the past I would have driven to the closest fast food restaurant just because I was tired and it was convenient. When I posted my struggle in the my group, fellow challengers helped me figure out what I could cook in a jiffy that was stress free, used what I had in the house AND followed my 21 Day Fix clean eating plan.

So ask yourself these questions:

Do you need some help staying motivated and accountable to your health and fitness goals?
Do you want to lose weight but don't know where to start?
Are you the type of person that needs someone constantly telling you what to do so you do it?
Do you enjoy working out with others?
Do you just want to maintain your body and learn how to eat healthier?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, a challenge group might just be what you need to help you reach those fitness goals.

FAQ's

Do Challenge Groups Meet in Person?
  • No.  Beachbody challenge groups are entirely done online, on a private Facebook page.
  • I  provide tipsmotivation, meal plans, recipes, accountability and challenges each day through a closed and private Facebook group!  This means no one but you can see what is posted or what YOU post.
  • Typically in each group there are 5-25 others people all working toward their health and fitness goals, Sometimes the groups are geared toward everyone doing the same program such as 21 Day Fix or Insanity. Other times it's a mixed group where challengers are doing a variety of different programs.

How do I Become a Part of a Challenge Group?

  • To be a participant in my challenge group, every person must purchase a Beachbody Challenge pack program. Included in your challenge pack is the program of your choice and a 30 day supply of Shakeology. Challenge packs are DEEPLY discounted in order for you to get the best value for your money.

  • I will work with you to help you find a Beachbody program that best fits your fitness goals.

Holiday Goals!

Here we go! The countdown is on for the holiday season and I am not AT ALL ready! I'm usually pretty good about being prepared for this time of year, but this year I'm not. Top it all off with the fact that my youngest has a Christmas Day birthday and it's very easy for me to begin to feel overwhelmed.

The time between Halloween and New Years the average American gains anywhere between 7-12 lbs. I was starting out the holiday season with the goal of NOT putting on any weight. But I have finally broken a plateau (that I was stuck at since September!) and I have decided to up the ante! In order for me to stay accountable, I'm sharing my goals WITH you! When I announce my goals I am more likely to stick to them. So here I am sharing my goals WITH you and inviting you on my continued journey.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER/JANUARY GOALS

1. Lose 5 lbs. This is the last of the weight I am looking to lose. I also know that I shouldn't obsess over the scale but my ultimate goal is to lose 5 lbs of FAT and then start gaining lean muscle mass. Which means I need to lose a little more and then can start some serious weight training (Body Beast is on my radar as my next Beachbody program!).

2. Complete P90X3. If I stick to my plan and according to when I started, I should be entering my final week of P90X3 January 6th. This will be HUGE for me as I have found this program more challenging than 21 Day Fix AND I am not digging getting up at 5:00 a.m. since winter has settled in.

3. Workout 6 Days a Week. P90X3 has one rest day a week (or you can do a workout that is mainly stretching). I have been playing with my rest day but really need to stick to the P90X3 schedule and take my rest day when it is scheduled. I know the schedule was made for a reason the way it is and that way os to give tou maximum results over the 90 days. Making whatever day a rest day is NOT going to get me to where I want to be when I am done is January!

4. Increase my dense vegetable intake when I am hungry. Sounds simple, right? But for me when I'm hungry I'd MUCH rather go for seconds for a carb than a veggie!

5. One plate at Thanksgiving. I don't plan on excluding certain items this year. After all it's not about eliminating the things you love. It's about learning to have proper portion sizes and not overdoing it! So there won't be any seconds for me (unless they are nutrient dense vegetable!)

6. Limit my holiday baking. This will by far be the toughest one for me. I love to bake! And I love to bake at Christmas. I would typically make 5-6 different types of cookies and sweets for the holiday. This includes sugar cookies, sweet breads, chocolate chip cookies, fudge, candied pecans. The list goes on. And on. And on! This year I only plan on making sugar cookies with the kids. Cranberry orange bread and of course cupcakes for my sons birthday.

So there you have it. My 6 goals to see me through the holiday season! I plan on spending less time in the kitchen (baking and eating) and more time concentrating on healthier habits and spending the time with my family.

Fall Back

Ahhhh... Fall is already in the air. The mornings are crisp and it's only a matter of time before the maple tree in our front yard turns the most amazing shade of red! (I'll definitely have to post a picture of that, it's pretty amazing!)

So I am pretty close to completing my third and final round of 21 day fix. I'm pleased at what I see in the mirror and have successfully managed to go down 2 full pant/dress sizes and am definitely going to be wearing a bikini in Destin, Florida in a week and a half!

But now it's on to other things. I recently ordered P90X3 (with celebrity trainer Tony Horton) and actually started that workout this morning. I am still eating according to the 21 Day Fix guidelines so it's a hybrid of sorts, for now.

P90X is the program that really put Beachbody on people's radar. The workouts aren't easy but they do provide some pretty miraculous results. However, in my mind P90X is marketed toward the already incredibly fit.  For those of you who may not be familiar with P90X3, it's basically the P90X workout broken down into daily half hour workouts as opposed to the original P90X format of 45 minute - 1 hour workouts.  For me, that was the most appealing part of this program. Sure I was intimidated by the look of the program but I figured it was only a half an hour. I can do anything for 30 minutes, right?

So I ripped that box open and watched a few of the DVD's. At first I thought "uh oh"... but as I kept watching I thought it looked kind of fun! So I was actually excited to get up this morning and try it out.

So now you're wondering "how'd she do?" well not too bad, actually. Of course there are modifications on all of the exercises, which was helpful. But the other great part is you go at your own pace. These moves are challenging enough that even at a snails pace, you're working!  I had to take some small breaks, or just hold plank every now again, which is fine. But I lived and I worked hard because I was dripping with sweat! And you know what? I'm going back for more tomorrow.

Different workout for tomorrow, "The Warrior" (today was "Accelerator" ) but I'm excited to try it!

As far as my husband and his progress, he's finishing up his second round of 21 Day Fix and I'm excited for his results! When he came home from work today, he showed me that his belt notch is one smaller and his pants were definitely looser around the waist.  I'll be sure to post his progress pictures and measurements next week.

So here's the great news about this workout. Is it difficult? yes, Is it kind of intense? yes. So guess what Tony Horton decided to do? Someone must have told him that the P90 "X series" were intense too! So he created P90. P90 was specifically designed for beginners. The perfect gateway to get started. Designed for all ages, and all fitness levels.

And here's the REAL exciting news! P90 will be available on September 23, 2014. So, if you'd like to give it a try but have been intimated by the "X" series or just want to get your fitness routine started, this might just be the program for you.

So I have just a little over a week until our big family beach vacation to Destin, Florida and I am committed to getting the most out of these last few workouts and eating healthy! My workouts are non-negotiable! No excuses!
